METALWORKING FLUIDS
The metal surface is subjected to a relatively strong cutting force during the machining process and because of the relative movement, considerable friction occurs between the tools and the workpiece surface as well as the tools and the swerves. Such friction will generate a large amount of heat, aggravate the wearing of tools and the deterioration of the surface accuracy of workpieces and reduce the processing efficiency. Metal working fluids can greatly reduce this friction and heat, extend the service life of tools and improve the surface quality of the workpiece, which is why metal machining fluids are commonly referred to as “coolants”.
In addition to the above functions, metal working fluid must also have anti-foam, environment-friendly, and antibacterial functions etc. Different mechanical processing methods have different functional requirements for metal working fluids. For example, the heavy-duty and low-speed machining have higher requirements for lubrication of metals while high-speed and low-load machining requires better cooling condition.
